How Many Times Do I Need to Travel?
Most international patients will need 3 trips to Malaysia. Depending on your treatment plan, Trip 3 and Trip 4 can usually be combined into a single visit.
Trip 1: Initial Fertility Assessment (2 Days)
Recommended stay: 2 days
Purpose
Your fertility specialist will assess your condition and create a personalised IVF treatment plan.
During Your Visit
- Consultation with fertility specialist
- Fertility assessment
- Ultrasound scan (if required)
- Blood tests
- Semen analysis (if required)
- IVF counselling and treatment planning
- Collection of IVF medications for the next stage of treatment
Before You Return Home
Our team will explain:
- When to start your medications
- Your stimulation timeline
- When to travel back to Malaysia for egg retrieval
Trip 2: Ovarian Stimulation & Egg Retrieval (10–12 Days)
Recommended stay: 10–12 days (may vary depending on your response to medication)
Purpose
To stimulate the ovaries, monitor follicle growth and perform egg retrieval (OPU).
Treatment Timeline
| Day | Procedure |
| Day 1 | Start hormone injections |
| Day 5-7 | First ultrasound scan |
| Day 9-10 | Second ultrasound scan |
| Day 12-14 | Egg Retrieval (OPU) |
| Up to Day 15 | OPU may be delayed if additional follicle growth is needed |
Please note that every patient responds differently to medication. Your treatment timeline may vary slightly based on your ovarian response.
What is Egg Retrieval (OPU)?
Egg retrieval is a minimally invasive procedure performed under sedation to collect mature eggs from the ovaries.
The procedure usually takes approximately 15-30 minutes, and most patients can return to their accommodation on the same day.
After Egg Retrieval
Most patients are medically fit to travel by air approximately 24 hours after the procedure.
However, depending on:
- Your recovery
- Your doctor’s assessment
- Your risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS)
Your doctor may recommend staying in Malaysia for an additional 1-3 days before travelling home.
Embryo Development Period
After egg retrieval:
- Eggs are fertilised in the laboratory.
- Embryos are cultured and monitored for development.
- Suitable embryos may be frozen for future transfer.
Your doctor will discuss:
- Number of embryos obtained
- Embryo quality
- Recommended embryo transfer plan
Trip 3: Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)
Preparation at Home (Approximately 7-8 Weeks)
Most patients can prepare for their Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) in their home country.
This usually includes:
- Hormonal medications
- Ultrasound scans
- Blood tests
Our fertility team will coordinate with you throughout your preparation period.
Travel to Malaysia
You will usually:
- Travel to Malaysia 1 day before embryo transfer
Embryo Transfer Timeline
- Embryo transfer is usually performed on Day 19-20 after starting Progynova (depending on your treatment protocol).
The embryo transfer procedure is:
- Simple
- Painless for most patients
- Does not require general anaesthesia
- Usually completed within a few minutes
After Embryo Transfer (ET)
You may choose one of the following options:
Option 1: Stay in Malaysia Until Pregnancy Test
Recommended Stay
Approximately 12 days
Timeline
| Day | Procedure |
| Day 0 | Embryo Transfer |
| Day 10 | Pregnancy blood test (Beta hCG) |
| Day 11 | Return home |
This option is ideal for patients who prefer to complete the pregnancy test in Malaysia.
Option 2: Return Home Earlier
Recommended Stay
Approximately 5-6 days
Timeline
| Day | Procedure |
| Day 0 | Embryo Transfer |
| Day 4-5 | Return home |
| Day 10 | Pregnancy blood test in your home country |
This option is suitable for patients who wish to minimise their stay in Malaysia.
Our team will continue to monitor your progress remotely and advise you on your pregnancy test and medications.
