Alhaya Fertility Centre, successfully held a fertility education event in Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia, in collaboration with Medical Concierge Asia (MCA), bringing together 24 couples seeking a better understanding of fertility challenges and available treatment options.
Held at Aston Hotel Palembang, the event, themed "Solusi Masalah Kesuburan bagi Pasutri", featured Dr Wan Syahirah Yang Mohsin (Dr Sera), Consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist and Fertility Specialist at Alhaya Fertility Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
The session provided an opportunity for Indonesian couples to gain insights into common causes of infertility, advances in assisted reproductive technology, and personalised fertility treatment approaches, particularly for couples experiencing repeated IVF failures or complex fertility conditions.
Understanding Fertility Challenges and Treatment Options
During the educational session, Dr Sera discussed several factors that may affect a couple's ability to conceive, including Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, diminished ovarian reserve, and low Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) levels.
She emphasised the importance of comprehensive fertility assessments and individualised treatment planning, as each couple may experience different fertility challenges.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of reviewing previous treatment outcomes, particularly among couples who have undergone unsuccessful IVF cycles, to identify appropriate next steps.
Introducing In-Vitro Activation (IVA): New Possibilities for Women with Primary Ovarian Insufficiency

One of the key highlights of the event was the introduction of In-Vitro Activation (IVA), an emerging fertility treatment approach for selected women diagnosed with Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI), a condition in which ovarian function declines before the age of 40.
IVA aims to stimulate the development of remaining dormant ovarian follicles, potentially providing additional reproductive options for carefully selected patients.
Dr Sera also shared Alhaya Fertility Centre's significant clinical milestone involving a 33-year-old woman diagnosed with POI and an extremely low AMH level of below 0.07 pmol/L.
Following IVA treatment performed in July 2025, the patient successfully conceived naturally approximately seven months later. The case was reported by Alhaya as the first successful pregnancy following IVA treatment in Malaysia.
This achievement represents an important development in Alhaya's efforts to explore fertility treatment options for women facing challenging ovarian conditions.
While IVA offers potential for selected patients, it remains an evolving treatment approach. Individual suitability and outcomes depend on comprehensive medical evaluation, and pregnancy cannot be guaranteed.
